Multi-platinum rock band joins NASCAR’s season-opening party

Multi-platinum recording artists, Staind, will be the headline act for pre- and post-race concert festivities at the 28th annual Budweiser Shootout at Daytona, which kicks off the NASCAR Nextel Cup season on Saturday, Feb. 11 at Daytona International Speedway.
Staind’s performance will come in the midst of a spring tour featuring songs from its latest album “Chapter V” (Flip/Atlantic). The album debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 in August, marking the band's third consecutive chart-topping disc. Staind will perform its #1 hit, “Right Here” and current single “Falling,” which has soared into the top 10 on the rock charts. “Right Here” marked the band’s fourth #1 radio track, following “For You,” “It’s Been Awhile,” and “So Far Away.”
Staind’s Aaron Lewis will also sing the National Anthem prior to the Budweiser Shootout (8 p.m. ET on TNT).
Following the conclusion of the 70-lap no-holds-barred, all-star race, Staind will perform a free concert for all Budweiser Shootout ticket holders. At the conclusion of the Staind concert, fans are invited to view more live music in the Daytona infield Fan Zone.
"I’ve always been a big fan of Staind,” said Dale Earnhardt Jr., winner of the 2002 Budweiser Shootout and 2004 Daytona 500. “They’re a great band, and it’s cool that they’re performing this year. They’re one of Budweiser’s True Music bands, and I got to race a special Staind paint scheme (at Richmond, Va in 2003), so I feel like we’ve been kind of like teammates for a few years. Budweiser makes the entire weekend of the Shootout a big party, and Staind makes it even more fun. I may have to sneak out there and see them myself after the race.”
Twenty-one drivers will race in the 2006 Budweiser Shootout, which features the previous year’s Bud Pole Award winners and past Shootout champions. Drivers eligible to compete in this year’s race include 2005 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series champion Tony Stewart, defending Shootout winner Jimmie Johnson, Jeff Gordon and Ryan Newman. Among the past Budweiser Shootout champions eligible are Dale Earnhardt Jr., Mark Martin and Bill Elliott.
