Budweiser Shootout: The Countdown Begins

(Friday, Jan. 23, 2004) – Starting tomorrow Bud Racing will begin a 14-day series of news releases entitled, “Countdown to the Budweiser Shootout.” The series will provide a multitude of storylines that will preface the 26th running of this all-star event. It will provide insight on the stars – past and present – who have made this race an exciting start to the NASCAR season since 1979.
Aside from being a fitting preview to the Daytona 500, the Budweiser Shootout at Daytona will be the first official on-track event for Nextel, cutting the ribbon on a new era of NASCAR. Twenty-two NASCAR NEXTEL Cup drivers are eligible to compete for the coveted Budweiser Shootout crown, including Dale Earnhardt Jr., who will try to become only the third driver in Shootout history to win two in a row.
Included in this “Countdown to the Budweiser Shootout” series will be driver profiles, historical stats and facts, and noteworthy items of interest.
