Budweiser Media Note: Nextel All-Star Challenge

Tony Eury Jr. to join over-the-wall crew again this weekend

Tony Eury Jr., car chief for Dale Earnhardt Jr. and the No. 8 Budweiser team, will again serve as front-tire changer in place of the injured Phil Drye this weekend in the NEXTEL All-Star Challenge at Lowe’s Motor Speedway. Walt Smith, pit crew coordinator at Dale Earnhardt Inc., said it is unclear whether Drye will be back for the Coca-Cola 600 on May 30.

Eury, who relinquished his full-time over-the-wall duties prior to last season, stepped in Saturday night at Richmond International Raceway and helped the Budweiser team to its third win of the year. Joked Eury, “(Changing tires) is like wearing an old pair of shoes. If you can do it, you can do it; if you can’t, you can’t. But I made sure Dale Jr. knew how to use that brake pedal when he came into the pits.”

The Bud crew will be one of 25 teams taking part in Saturday night’s all-star event (approx. 9 p.m. ET start on FX), which awards no points but features a purse of $3,195,000. The pit crews play an essential role in determining the starting grid for this race, as Bud Pole Qualifying (Friday / 6 p.m. ET on Speed Channel) includes a three-lap sprint and a mandatory four-tire pit stop.

The Budweiser team is the reigning McDonald’s Drive-Thru Pit Champions and currently leads the 2004 standings with 382 points.

The Budweiser pit crew:
Gasman: Bill Snyder
Catchcan Man: Craig Lund
Windshield: Barry Hoover
Jackman: Kevin Pennell
Front Tire Changer/Car Chief: Tony Eury Jr. (regularly Phil Drye)
Front Tire Carrier: Danny Earnhardt
Rear Tire Changer: Shannon Myers
Rear Tire Carrier: Troy Prince
Crew Chief: Tony Eury Sr.
