Dale Jr. Quotes
“This is one of those races that seem more like a championship boxing match than a stock car race. The track is so small, you’re running so close together and it’s so hard to pass cleanly that it’s a miracle if you finish 500 laps with a car that is intact. Last year, I was like (former junior lightweight world champion boxer) Arturo Gatti – just stepping in and swingin’ hard -- very aggressive and brutal. We crashed so often in this race last year that I felt like I was in some sort of stunt show. But, in the spring race here this year, we tried a new approach. I guess it was like a boxer that’s on defense, avoiding trouble and avoiding contact in order to stay around until the end of the bout. We finished 11th, so I suppose that approach worked a lot better.”

What to Watch
The “Old Dominion 500” sounds like a throwback to the old days of NASCAR, when the events were known by catchy nicknames such as the Rebel 500 and the Firecracker 400. It’s also a throwback to days when most of the tracks were small, short ovals where a pass for position was more often preceded by a bump from behind rather than a sleek, aerodynamic drafting move. Grab a Bud, sit back and watch the sheet metal fly on Sunday.
