Budweiser NASCAR Winston Cup Race Preview

Pennsylvania 500 - Pocono Raceway - July 17, 2000

Quotes from Dale Earnhardt Jr.
"Pocono is a tough track to get used to. We learned a lot a few weeks ago (during the June race), but not as much as I would've liked for this race. That was the first race there for me and for the team and we were never that good after the contact (with Dale Earnhardt on lap 4), so it was kind of tough. I think we're a better team than what we showed, we should be better this time. We were happy with a top 20 last month, but we're aiming higher this weekend."

On the Road On A Weekend Off
How does Dale Jr. spend a rare weekend off? As if the endless Winston Cup tour doesn't provide enough road time, Dale Jr. took to the highway to hang out with his favorite band, Third Eye Blind. Following two days of testing at Indianapolis, Dale and a few friends piled into his motorcoach and hooked up with the band at concerts in Indiana and Kentucky.

"We met the band and had a few Buds with them backstage," said Dale Jr. "They made us feel very welcome. We were able to meet the guys from (the bands) Vertical Horizon and Splender as well. They all travel in rough ol' buses and sleep in bunks one on top of the other, going from gig to gig every night. The Cup schedule is tough, but after seeing that, I'm not sure I'd trade places with those guys."

What to Watch
The Budweiser team continues a search for consistency as they return to the odd-shaped Pennsylvania tri-oval for the second time in five weeks. Known as one of the toughest ovals on the circuit, Dale Jr. and the Bud crew came away from their first-ever race at Pocono with a slightly-damaged car and a top 20 finish.

Thanks to Jade from BudPR for the update! Jim :~)
