Pennsylvania 500 - Pocono Raceway

Budweiser Update: Earnhardt Jr. Uninjured in Practice Crash

(July 22, 2000) - Dale Earnhardt Jr. was uninjured in a violent crash this morning at Pocono Speedway while practicing for Sunday's Pennsylvania 500. The No. 8 Budweiser car (the same chassis that won The Winston earlier this year) was damaged beyond repair, so Earnhardt Jr. will start at the back of the field in a back-up car. He has been slated to lineup 15th in Sunday's race.

"It just didn't turn," said Earnhardt Jr., who crashed in "the Tunnel Turn" (turn two). "I locked the brakes but we hit pretty hard." The car careened off the outside wall before sliding across the track, hitting the inside wall.

As a precautionary measure, Earnhardt Jr. was transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown, PA, where he was examined and released.

Thanks to Jade from BudPR for the update! Jim :~)
